GENERAL & NDIS
About the NDIS
What is the NDIS?
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is an Australian Government initiative that provides funding and support to people with a permanent and significant disability, helping them live more independently and pursue their goals.
Am I eligible for the NDIS?
Generally you must be aged between 7 and 65 when you apply, live in Australia as a citizen or eligible visa holder, and have a permanent and significant disability. Our team can help you check your eligibility.
Is Next Step Disability a registered NDIS provider?
Yes. We are a registered NDIS provider, which means we meet the scheme’s quality and safety standards and can support participants across a range of funding types.
How is my NDIS funding structured?
NDIS funding is generally divided into three budgets: Core Supports, Capacity Building, and Capital Supports. Each covers different types of supports based on your needs and goals.
How long does an NDIS plan last?
Most NDIS plans run for around 12 months, though some may be longer. Before your plan ends, you will have a review to make sure your supports still meet your needs and goals.
What is the difference between self-managed, plan-managed, and agency-managed?
These are the three ways your funding can be managed. Self-managed means you handle payments yourself, plan-managed uses a third party to pay providers, and agency-managed means the NDIA pays registered providers directly.
Can my NDIS plan be changed or reviewed?
Yes. If your needs or circumstances change, you can request a plan review. Your plan is also formally reviewed before it ends to keep your supports aligned with your goals.
